This Slow Cooker Sesame Pork has a pork roast that is marinated overnight in an Asian-inspired sauce, then cooked low and slow until it is fall-apart tender.

This slow cooker pork is one of those meals that is much faster to prepare than the time it would take to go through the drive through. To be fair – you do have to start the night before by marinating the pork, but really, that just makes it even easier the next day to make dinner. But I can almost guarantee you that you’ll feel better about eating this than you would a cheeseburger.
One thing I like to mention when you are cooking a big piece of meat like this in a slow cooker is that all slow cookers cook differently. You don’t want the pork to cook too long, because it can become dry. So start checking around 6 hours and cook until it is your desired doneness.
This is a perfect weeknight (or weekend!) dinner!

Ingredients
- Pork Roast: This recipe calls for a pork roast. You are ideally looking for a pork shoulder roast or a center cut loin. I would not use a tenderloin for this recipe, as it does not have very much fat and will turn out pretty dry.
- Water: You will need water for the marinade as well as a little when you make the sauce at the end.
- Soy Sauce: I like to use low sodium soy sauce. If you use a regular soy sauce, it may be too salty.
- Sesame Seeds: For the best results, use toasted sesame seeds.
- Molasses: The molasses will help to tenderize the pork, as well as add a deep flavor. Use unsulphered molasses.
- Vinegar: For the vinegar, apple cider vinegar will work the best. But you can sub in regular white vinegar if that is all you have.
- Green Onions: You will add sliced green onions to the marinade to give it some onion flavor. I like to also serve it with some fresh green onions.
- Garlic Powder: This is for flavor.
- Cornstarch: I like to thicken up the sauce at the end, and using cornstarch is the best way to do this.
How to Make this Slow Cooker Sesame Pork
STEP 1: Cut the pork roast into 2 pieces. This is just to help with cooking time, as the roast is usually pretty big.
STEP 2: Make the marinade by combining the water, soy sauce, sesame seeds, molasses, vinegar, green onions, and garlic powder. Take half of the marinade and add it to a large ziplock bag. Put the other half in a container with a lid and refrigerate.
STEP 3: Add the pork to the bag and seal shut. Place the bag in the refrigerator and marinate overnight.
STEP 4: The next morning, place the pork roast in a slow cooker, discarding the marinade in the bag. Add the reserved marinade to the slow cooker. Cook on high for 1 hour.
STEP 5: After the 1 hour on high, reduce the heat to low and cook for an additional 5-7 hours, or until the meat is tender.
STEP 6: Remove the pork from the slow cooker. Skim the fat off of the liquid, then transfer the liquid to a saucepan. Bring to a boil. In a small bowl, whisk the water and cornstarch together, then whisk into the saucepan. Cook until thickened.
STEP 7: Serve the pork with the sauce. Top with fresh green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Great idea to use the slow cooker, looks like a great recipe. Although I love some of the food trucks.
Bob says
Wow, this looks really tender. I hate to ask, what is a Pork Roast, is the shoulder, tenderloin? When I cook pork it’s always tough, I think it’s because I choose the wrong cut
Deborah says
Hi Bob – this wasn’t a tenderloin – I love tenderloin, but I do think it’s hard to cook and not dry it out. I believe this was a sirloin roast.
