I’m always a sucker for a good hot dog recipe. And I love getting inspiration from other foods. So when I get a chance to combine a Cuban sandwich with a hot dog? I’m all in!
These easy hot dogs take under 30 minutes to make, and are a fun way to change up hot dog night. I love a good Cuban sandwich, and these hot dogs are an easier way to get those same flavors.
Ingredients
- Hot Dogs: You can use beef or pork hot dogs. A traditional cuban sandwich is made with pork, but I prefer beef hot dogs.
- Ham: You want to use deli ham so that it can be wrapped around the hot dog.
- Buns: I just use hot dog buns, but you could also use a crusty bread if you want to make it even more like a Cuban!
- Cheese: We stick with Swiss cheese since it is the traditional choice.
- Pickles: I like to use pickle spears, but sliced pickles will work, too. Extra crispy pickles are the best!
- Mustard: You want just regular yellow mustard.
How to Make Cuban Hot Dogs
STEP 1: Start by wrapping the hot dogs in a slice of ham. If your slices are smaller or really thin, you may need 2 slices.
STEP 2: Heat a skillet over medium heat, and add the wrapped hot dogs. Cook the hot dogs, turning as needed, until the ham is browned and the hot dogs are warmed through. You can add a lid to the skillet if needed, to make sure the hot dogs are warmed completely.
STEP 3: While the hot dogs are cooking, heat the broiler on your oven. Add a slice of cheese to each bun on a baking tray. Place the tray in the oven and broil until the cheese is melted and the buns are toasted.
STEP 4: Assemble your dogs! Add one of the hot dogs to each bun, then add a pickle spear and drizzle with mustard.
Tips and Tricks
You can easily make these hot dogs in an air fryer or on a grill, as well. Just make sure to turn them several times, to make sure they are cooked evenly.
Make sure to keep an eye on the buns and cheese under the broiler. They can go from not done to burned in a matter of seconds.
This recipe makes 8 hot dogs, but can easily be scaled down to make as many hot dogs as you need.
