You can never go wrong when avocado and ranch are combined, right?
And when you have this Avocado Ranch Dressing, you’ll want to put it on everything.
I first posted this recipe back in 2014. It was inspired by some Club Burger Sliders that I made, and now this dressing is a regular at our house.
My kids already eat ranch dressing like it’s going out of style, so add in some avocado and it’s pure magic! Not only does this make a great dressing for salads, but it also goes great on sandwiches or wraps, or eat it as a dip with your veggies. It’s a great way to change up your regular ranch!

Ingredients
- Avocado: You need one medium avocado. I wouldn’t stress too much about the size of the avocado. The recipe will work great even if your avocado is smaller or bigger.
- Buttermilk: You can use a buttermilk substitute in a pinch, but actual buttermilk will give you the best flavor and texture.
- Sour Cream: I use regular sour cream. You could sub in plain Greek yogurt, as well.
- Herbs: For the freshest flavor, use fresh herbs. You will need parsley, dill, and chives.
- Olive Oil: You just need a little bit of olive oil for this recipe. You could sub in another neutral oil, if needed.
- Lemon Juice: I have always made this with fresh lemon juice, but have also tried it with lime juice. Both versions are delicious!
- Rice Vinegar: The recipe calls for seasoned rice vinegar, but I have also use unseasoned and it worked just fine!
- Garlic: I like to use fresh garlic. If you want to sub in garlic powder, you’ll need about 1/2 teaspoon.
- Salt and Pepper: Never underestimate the power of salt and pepper! If you are sensitive to either, you can wait and add them to taste after the dressing has been blended.

How to Make Avocado Ranch Dressing
STEP 1: Add all of the ingredients to a blender.
STEP 2: Use the dressing function on the blender, or just blend until everything is combined.

Tips and Tricks
When adding ingredients to the blender, I like to add the avocado last. I find that it mixes best this way.
If the dressing is too thick, add in additional buttermilk, or even regular milk. It will also set up a bit more in the refrigerator, so keep that in mind.
Some of the ingredients may separate a bit after being refrigerated. Just give it a quick stir and it will be fine!
Most dressings will last about a week in the refrigerator, but I like to use this one up faster. The color will start to change because of the avocado after a few days. So while it still tastes fine, the color can be off putting.

I haven’t tried freezing this before, but I’ll have to give it a try next time I make it!

Oh man! That looks and sounds so yummy! I love salads too. I make a green salad about 2-3 times a week to go with our meals. This will be a nice change to add to them.

How long do you trust your dressing in the fridge ? Not that is probably lasts that long ! Just curious….Thanks
Deborah says
I probably wouldn’t keep it longer than a week, tops. It should be good for a few days, for sure, but I try to get through it fairly quickly.

I would suggest using homemade kefir in place of buttermilk, that would add some healthy probiotics!

looks wonderful!! We will be trying it this weekend.
did you know that your regular mouth mason jars will fit on your blender base, saving you the steps of moving it from blender to jar and of washing said blender.
I was SO excited when I learned that trick 🙂

This looks SO darn good! I make salads all the time but usually only top them with olive oil…which can get kind of old after a while. 🙁 Would love to make this dressing as a nice change of pace!!
