Snickers Salad – a sweet salad with apples, grapes, strawberries and Snickers bars in a sweet, creamy mixture. Serve as a side dish or as a dessert.
If you’ve got some fresh apples on hand, this Snickers Salad is the perfect way to use them up! Or check out all of my apple recipes for even more ideas.
This Snickers Salad has been gracing our table for many, many years now. I know this is not your typical “salad” but trust me when I say that this will be one of the first things on the table to disappear.
This is perfect for taking to a potluck or to a family dinner, and especially for holiday dinners. I love to make it year round, but it is especially good during apple season when apples are sweet and perfect.
What is Snickers Salad
A little more dessert-like than salad-like, this Snickers Salad is a real treat. I thought it was a Utah thing and that everyone in Utah had experienced this salad, but I learned at that church event that there were some people who had never had it before.
This Snicker Salad is a fruit salad with pudding, whipped topping, and of course – Snickers bars. If you think that Snickers in a salad is strange, just try it. I honestly don’t know anyone who doesn’t just love this salad.
Ingredients
There are all kinds of versions of it out there. Some don’t use the pudding mix. Some don’t do the grapes. And my sister adds in the strawberries – and I’ve never seen anyone do strawberries before – but I love them in this salad. This version is my favorite version and the one I go back to every time.
Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix: You’ll want to make sure that you are using an instant pudding mix, and that it is the dry mix, not prepared. You’ll be adding it to milk and Cool Whip – not preparing it according to the package directions.
Milk: I usually use 2%. I would probably steer clear of 1% or skim just so that the mixture is thick enough.
Cool Whip: This is frozen whipped topping. You’ll want it thawed but still refrigerated. You could also use freshly whipped cream, but I think the Cool Whip holds up better and longer.
Apples: The best apples to use are crisp apples. I like to use granny smith apples, but honeycrisp, cortland, or jonagold would all be great choices. My favorite thing to do is get an assortment of apples.
Snickers Candy Bars: I think this is easiest using full sized candy bars, but if you have snack sized on hand, those will work, too. Just make sure to cut them into bite-sized pieces – you don’t want them too big.
Grapes & Strawberries: These are optional, but I really do think they make this recipe stand out from others!
How do you make Snicker Salad?
It really doesn’t get any easier than this sweet side dish!
- Start by combining the pudding mix and the milk. Stir in the whipped topping.
- Add the apples, grapes, strawberries, and chopped Snickers bars and stir into the pudding mixture to combine. Refrigerate the salad until ready to serve.

This is by far the worst recipe I’ve tried for this. My grandma died and always used to make this so I thought I’d try. It’s a watery runny mess. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that much milk being put in this. Waisted a lot of ingredients for it to be yucky. Bummer.
Deborah says
I’m so sorry it didn’t work out for you. I’ve made this dozens of times and it’s never been watery or runny. Did you use the dry pudding mix? You want to make sure it’s not prepared first – that’s the only thing I can think of that could have gone wrong.
Janet arnold says
Can I use evaporated milk instead of 2 percent or vitamin d I only have 1/2 percent
Deborah says
I haven’t tried it so I can’t say for sure, but my guess is that it would work!
Linda Jo says
This was very time intense BUT once it was done OMGoodness was it good!!
Yuudachi says
I was born and raised in Utah and never heard of Snickers Salad.
I know it’s a Midwestern staple food though, like cookie salad and glorified rice.
Casey thompson says
I know this is a stupid question but do you prepare the pudding first according to the box or do you mix the powder straight from the box with the whip cream and stuff
Deborah says
There are no stupid questions! You just add the powder straight in. I hope you love it as much as we do!
Autumn Rudd says
I really did love this and so did everyone else. I tweaked the recipe just a bit with more pudding and it turned out great.
Deb Timm says
I love this salad. It’s really good
Dwayne says
I’m using blackberries instead of strawberries.
Debbie says
Can you turn this into dairy free?
Hardeep says
Can this salad be made with another candy bar instead of snickers? In case of nut allergies ? Thanks
Deborah says
I have never tried another candy bar but I bet it would be great with another candy bar!
Dylan says
What type of grapes are used, red, green.?
Deborah says
I usually use red, but either would probably work.
Mary Ann says
Was the container of cool whip suppose to be 8 or 12 oz?. it says 1 oz.
Deborah says
Sorry about that – not sure why it cut off! It is an 8 oz container. I have updated the recipe.
Liz says
Sounds so good, but so different. Thanks Deborah.
Lindsay says
I was seriously JUST thinking about/craving this recipe today! Thanks for posting!
Habanaro says
The first time I had someone ask me to try this I thought that they must be flippin crazy! Now I am, CRAZY about it. What an awesome salad this is.
Deborah says
@Habanaro, it’s definitely not your typical salad, but it sure is delicious!!
Patti says
I first tried this at a missionary homecoming. It was a good thing I got some on the first go-round because it was gone in a hurry!
grace says
oh deborah. this is amazing even without the snickers. they very nearly make it too much to handle…but not quite. 🙂

GENIUS

This sounds like my kind of salad!
Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says
Deborah..this looks great!
My mom used to make all kinds of “salads” with Cool Whip, shredded coconut, fruit, angel food cake, and just throwing things together til it was good and coated.
Snickers + salad = 2 faves of mine 🙂
Alli says
Is it weird that … one I have never heard of a snickers salad … two I thought that was mayo and snickers at first (need sleep!) and three I am so intrigued I am going downstairs to see if I have all of the ingredients!
Bunny Eats Design says
A sweet salad seems odd too me. I’d call this a Snickers Ambrosia. It doesn’t have the same alliteration but it’s more descriptive. I’m sure your dish was a success at the pot luck!
Joanne says
For some reason dessert salads like this just don’t happen here in the northeast…I’m not sure why but I think it’s time to bring them over. Show the east coast where it’s at. This sounds delicious!
kat says
Oh man, that is totally more dessert to me!
Carmen Smith says
What size Snickers did you use?
Deborah says
Carmen – you will need full sized snickers. I updated the recipe so it’s not so confusing!!
Jodi says
I love the recipe but can you put apples and other fruits in it the nite before or no
Theresa Sea says
My Gram makes something similar to this, but uses only coolwhip, snickers, and green and red apples. It tastes like a caramel apple! YUM! 🙂
Heather of Kitchen Concoctions says
I have never heard of this salad but it sounds amazing! I love when I can eat dessert with my meal!
Jocelyn says
This is one of my all time favorite salads…although I have never seen it with grapes and strawberries it it. What a fun twist!!!
Katrina says
This is really interesting!
Maria says
I like any salad that includes candy:)
Teri Carter says
Bummer, I was looking for a different salad last night for a work bbq today. I ended up finding an unusual pasta salad (I hope it gets eaten) but this would have been perfect. I live in Utah and have never heard of nor had this salad. I am putting it on my list for the next potluck.
Jessica says
Have you heard of the grape salad? Yum
