I’m always going in and re-making recipes that I’ve posted. And recently, when I went to make this Holiday Punch, aka Mock Champagne, I found out that one of the ingredients in the original recipe wasn’t as readily available as it used to be. So I decided to change it a bit. And guess what – the new recipe is so much easier!
I originally found this Holiday Punch recipe in a family cookbook, and thought it would be a great way to welcome in the new year. It was called Wedding Punch in the cookbook, but I definitely think this recipe is a perfect drink for any holiday. And since we keep things non-alcoholic around here, this recipe is just perfect and family friendly. The kids always love to drink something special, and this drink fits the bill!

Ingredients
- White Grape Juice: This should be pretty easy to find at most stores in the juice section.
- Citric Acid: I keep a bag of citric acid on hand, mostly to make Sweet Lemon Water. It is a great addition to drinks, adding some tart flavor and helping to balance the sweetness. You can sometimes find citric acid at the grocery store, but I usually buy it online.
- Ginger Ale: This adds flavor and the fizziness.
- Turbinado Sugar & Lemon Slices (optional):
- Fresh Cranberries: I just used these for garnish. You can definitely skip these, but they do make them look a little more fancy.

How to Make Holiday Punch (Mock Champagne)
STEP 1: Add the white grape juice and citric acid to a pitcher. Stir until the citric acid is dissolved.
STEP 2: Pour the ginger ale into the pitcher.

STEP 3: Now, this step is not required, but you can do it if you want things extra fancy. Take a lemon wedge and rub it on the edge of your glasses.
STEP 4: Add some turbinado sugar to a small dish, and dip the rim in the sugar. Now you get a little extra sparkle and sweetness!

Tips and Tricks
You can always add ice, if desired, but I didn’t want to water down the punch.
You can also add this to a large punch bowl and serve it at parties.
Don’t mix in the ginger ale until you are ready to serve it. You want it to keep the carbonation, and if you add it earlier, the soda will be flat.

Hi, Deborah, Thanks for this recipe. I tasted this more than twenty years ago in the Monument Park 2nd Ward, Foothill Drive area of Salt Lake City. The punch was wonderful, the best ever, and it was a family recipe, served at a wedding and a Church get-together. I asked for the recipe and remember some of the ingredients that I was told. They seem to be the same, although I never had the written recipe. Since you also live in Utah, the chances are pretty good that this is the same wonderful punch! I thought it was unique and so good! I was just doing an online search, looking for this very recipe. Thank you again.

Hi Kathy – I got this recipe from a family cookbook from an aunt that has lived in Utah for a long time. So hopefully it is just what you are looking for!!

I’m always looking for new non-alcoholic things to serve since it seems like everywhere I turn, someone else is pregnant or swearing off alcohol! Love the sound of this punch. Anything gingery speaks to me.

Love the short ingredient list and how simple this is to make!
Julia says
This might be a silly question, but what is the citric acid for in the punch?
Deborah says
It gives the drink a sour or tart flavor.

This recipe makes a ton and I love that! If there is anything I despise more when throwing a party is having to keep an eye on the refreshments. Looks gorgeous!
