Ingredients
- Mayonnaise: I will usually use regular mayonnaise, but feel free to use low fat mayonnaise.
- Ketchup: Now – I don’t want anyone coming after me saying that Big Mac sauce doesn’t have ketchup. That’s why I’m not call this Big Mac Sauce. Instead, it’s a sauce that I personally like, and it includes ketchup.
- Pickles: You’ll use chopped pickles. I like to finely chop them.
- Mustard: You need plain yellow mustard.
- Vinegar: A little bit of vinegar is needed for the tang.
- Spices: For spices, I use onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. I do also like to add in a bit of smoked paprika sometimes, though.
- Sweet Potato Fries: I have made these bowls by roasting my own sweet potatoes, and it is also delicious that way, but using frozen sweet potato fries just makes this a faster, easier meal. But if you have the time, it’s worth it to roast your own potatoes!
- Ground Beef: I like to use a leaner ground beef, just so I don’t have to worry about excess fat.
- Lettuce: The base of the bowl is lettuce and sweet potato fries, so I like to add a good amount of lettuce. Romaine is my favorite for this recipe.
- Bacon: If you’re not a bacon fan feel free to leave this out. I will usually add half slices, but have also crumbled the bacon and added it that way.
- Cheese: I like to add some finely grated cheddar cheese.
- Tomatoes, Pickles, and Onion: These are all optional, but all toppings I like on my burgers.
How to Make Burger Bowls
STEP 1: For the ground beef, I keep things really simple. I just cook the ground beef by itself, making sure to season well with salt and pepper. You can add in a splash of Worcestershire sauce if desired, but I just keep it simple.
STEP 2: For the special sauce, simply mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles, mustard, vinegar, onion powder, and garlic powder. Taste the sauce and season with salt and pepper. Refrigerate this until needed.
STEP 3: Cook your sweet potato fries. You can do this in the oven, but my favorite way to cook them is in the air fryer. I just make them according to the package directions.
STEP 4: Last step is to assemble the bowls! I start with lettuce and fries on the bottom, then add the ground beef and any desired toppings. Then drizzle the special sauce over the top.
Tips and Tricks
If you want to cut some calories and add some protein, use half plain Greek yogurt and half mayonnaise in the special sauce.
I like to serve these buffet style so each person can assemble their own. That way, people get what they want in their bowl.
If you have leftovers, it’s best to store everything separately. Or I will sometimes use meal prep containers and add a serving of beef and serving of fries, then store everything else separately.
