I love a good mocktail, and it really doesn’t get any easier than this Roy Rogers Drink! Except maybe the similar Shirley Temple, that is made with lemon-lime soda instead of cola.
The story goes that this drink was named after Roy Rogers because he did not drink alcohol. I just love it because it is so simple, yet so delicious!
Ingredients
- Grenadine: For the longest time, I thought grenadine was a cherry syrup, but it is actually a concentrated pomegranate syrup. It gives the drink a little extra sweetness and a beautiful red color. It is pretty easy to find at most major grocery stores.
- Cola: You can really use any cola, but we usually go for Coca-cola. You can use regular or diet.
- Maraschino Cherries: Traditionally, the drink is topped with a maraschino cherry.
How to Make a Roy Rogers
STEP 1: Add ice to a glass. Then pour in the grenadine.
STEP 2: Add the cola to the glass, then top with a maraschino cherry or two. I like to give it a little stir with a straw, just to make sure the grenadine gets mixed in.
Tips and Tricks
Secretly, I really like maraschino cherries, even though I know they are filled with food coloring and sugar. But I like to add 2 or 3 to my drink, and then save them until the end to eat, once they have soaked up some of the cola.
This recipe is just for one serving. Feel free to scale up to make it for more!
You really don’t have to measure out anything to make this delicious. I usually just eyeball it!
