Love a good Monte Cristo? We love the flavor combination so much, you can find it in this Monte Cristo Sandwich, Monte Cristo Sandwich Loaf, and even these Monte Cristo Crepes!
I have been a fan of the Monte Cristo for as long as I can remember. The combination of the savory plus sweet is just one of my favorite things ever.
So combine that love of the Monte Cristo with my love of sliders and you have these Monte Cristo Sliders. These are so easy to make, and they are such a crowd pleaser.
This one is sure to become a menu regular!
Ingredients
- Hawaiian Rolls: Since these sandwiches are sweet and savory, I like to use the Hawaiian rolls, which are slightly sweet. You can use regular savory butter rolls, though – they are delicious, too!
- Cheese: Traditional Monte Cristo sandwiches have Swiss, so that’s what I’m calling for. But my family doesn’t always love Swiss, so I’ll often sub in Provolone or even Gouda.
- Meat: A Monte Cristo will traditionally have ham and turkey, so that’s what we go with. I just use deli meat.
- Jam: You often see the Monte Cristo being served with jam for dipping, but to me, it’s an important component. So I like to put a layer in the sandwich, along with extra for dipping. You can always leave it off the sandwich and just serve with some on the side, if desired.
- Butter: You will just need some butter for the top of the rolls.
- Powdered Sugar: The final step is dusting the tops with powdered sugar. Again – this is a must for me (it’s important for the sweet/savory combo), but if it’s not your thing, you can definitely skip it.
How to Make Monte Cristo Sliders
STEP 1: Cut the rolls in half horizontally. Keeping the tops and bottoms intact, place the bottoms in a greased baking dish.
STEP 2: Take half of your cheese and layer it on top of the rolls. I usually use sliced cheese because it’s easy, but you can also use grated.
STEP 3: Layer the turkey next. I like to fold it over a bit to create more volume and layers.
STEP 4: After the turkey, layer on the ham.
STEP 5: And then add the remaining cheese.
STEP 6: spread the jam on the underside of the top half of the rolls. Place this, jam side down, in the baking dish.
STEP 7: Melt the butter and spread it over the top of the rolls. Then cover the dish with foil and bake until the cheese is melty. Uncover the dish, then let it cook a few more minutes to crisp up on top.
STEP 8: Before serving, dust the top of the rolls with powdered sugar. Then serve with more raspberry jam for dipping.
Tips and Tricks
A normal 9×13-inch pan will have some room around the edges, but that is totally ok. They do not have to fit in exactly. (The pan in the photographs is just smaller than 9×13-inches.)
You can also swap in strawberry jam for the raspberry jam.
These are best eaten when made, but they do hold up fairly well for leftovers. They will get a little soggy, but they are still great!
