There is nothing that says summer like a glass of lemonade.
But what’s even better?
Strawberry lemonade!
This strawberry lemonade recipe is sweet and tart and refreshing. And it’s made with all real ingredients – so you really can’t get better than that!
Ingredients
- Strawberry Syrup: You’ll start by making my strawberry syrup, which consists of diced strawberries, sugar, and a little bit of lemon juice. You can make this ahead of time.
- Lemon Juice: You will also need fresh lemon juice. Don’t try to use bottled here – you want it fresh.
- Water: I just use regular water! You could of course use tonic water or another sparkling water, but we just use still water.
How to Make Strawberry Lemonade
STEP 1: I’m including the instructions here to make the strawberry syrup. First you want to blend the strawberries in a blender or food processor until they are liquid.
STEP 2: Press the liquid through a fine sieve into a saucepan to get rid of the seeds. You just want the juice in a large saucepan. Add the sugar and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice to the juice.
STEP 3: Cook the mixture until the sugar dissolves, then turn up the heat slightly and bring it to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes. Transfer to a container (I like to use a mason jar) and refrigerate until the syrup is cold.
STEP 4: You’ll also want to juice your lemons. I like to pass the lemon juice through another sieve to catch any pulp and seeds. Refrigerate the juice while the syrup is being refrigerated.
STEP 5: When it’s time to make the lemonade, pour the lemon juice into a pitcher.
STEP 6: Add the strawberry syrup. (Note that you are not using all of the syrup. You only need 1/2 cup of the syrup for this recipe.) Stir it together – the syrup is thick, so you want to make sure it is fully stirred.
STEP 7: Add the water and stir to combine. It’s ready to serve!
Make it Fancy!
Want to make it “fancy”?
STEP 1: Add a diced strawberry and a little bit of mint to the bottom of a glass. Use a muddler to smash them and break them up.
STEP 2: Add ice, the pour your strawberry lemonade over the top. This just adds a little something to take it up a bit!
Tips and Tricks
- The strawberry syrup does make more than you need, but you can use the rest to make more lemonade, use it as a topping for pancakes or ice cream, or make Strawberry Cream Floats with the rest!
- I always start with the lower amount of water and account for the ice melting a bit, watering it down more. But it is pretty potent with only 3 cups of water. Add more water until you have the strength you like.
- This recipe is easy to scale up, simply because it does make extra strawberry syrup.
- You can store the components separately, and then just combine as you go to make the lemonade, or you can make a big pitcher and keep it stored in the refrigerator. You will need to stir well before serving again, though, as the strawberry will start to settle.
