Traditional Chocolate Chip Cookies

Description

A recipe for a traditional chocolate chip cookie.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups chocolate chips (or peanut butter chips, or mint pieces, or a mixture!)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl. Beat butter, sugars, and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chips and nuts (if using). Drop by rounded teaspoonful onto ungreased baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes and then remove to wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
