I feel like I’m just getting into the swing of summertime, even though it seems like the summer is getting cut short by all the talk of school starting and fall just around the corner. Don’t get me wrong – I’m excited about fall, too, but I’m holding onto the last of summer. The late sun, the time at the grill, and the bountiful fruits and veggies.
One thing is for sure – there is still plenty of time for summertime parties. The weather is still hot, the pools are still cool, and we all still need excuses to get together, right??
I was asked by the makers of Swanson Chicken to come up with a summer party favorite – or to reinvent one. This is a reinvention that I’m surprised I haven’t thought of before! We all probably know the super popular Buffalo Chicken dip. That stuff is dangerous. But guess what? There are people out there that don’t like buffalo sauce. I don’t know any of them, (that just pure crazy to me), but I thought I’d come up with something that would be just as crowd pleasing, but without the spice factor.
Let me tell you – this was just as addicting as it’s buffalo counterpart. Do not give a pregnant woman a sleeve of crackers and a dish full of this dip. It will mean no dinner that night because someone won’t be hungry anymore after stuffing her face with BBQ Chicken Dip!
If you have an end of summer party, this dip is sure to be a hit!

I am almost 10 years late to the party but this dip is AMAZING! Did it for a game night a few weeks ago and we had it 2 other times since. Great crowd pleasers, easy to put together. I do it in a crock pot that way it stays warm longer.

Made it, baked it, ate it, LOVED IT!!! We took it to a New Year’s Eve gathering & it was a huge it. Of course we did not give the recipe… This will be going to all future get togethers. I thought I would jazz it up by offering beer bread & fancy crackers BUT the ritz cracker won hands down. Thanks for sharing the recipe!!! Fantastic!

This dip is ment to be for summer, right?you should try it cold….. Take away the Monterrey cheese and instead of the BBQ add chipotle sauce… And blend all the ingredients …… Refrigerate …. Uuuf enjoy the summer with a cold fresh dip! You can try it without the BBQ and add ham, bologna etc …….
I am from the north of Mexico …. From the desert, Sonora! So, the hot summer force me to eat coooold dips! Enjoy girls 🙂

I would like to know, could you adapt this to be made in a crock pot, instead of the oven, as I do with my buffalo chix dip? I throw it all in, stir often and wait til its heated, then we dip at keep it warm throughout the party/evening…thank you!
Deborah says
@Janette D, I haven’t tried it in the crock pot, but I’m guessing it will work!

I’m with ya! I don’t want summer to end this year! I will hang onto every moment of summer I’m sure until I am forced to celebrate Halloween! : ) This dip looks and sounds fabulous! I’m not pregnant but whenever I get around dip I cannot stop snacking. I have a recipe for spinach artichoke dip that I could eat all in one sitting and I’m sure I could do that to this dip!

This is a great idea for those that don’t like spicy. I can see it being just as addicting as the buffalo one. I am savoring the last few weeks of summer. I love that it is light out until 8pm.

HOLY HECK! I like bbq sauce WAYYYYYY better than buffalo sauce. You really, really, really knocked it outta the park with this one Deborah. I’m pinning this and MUST remake it asap. My bf and I will go nuts because we are known to make a huge bowl of a dip – guacamole, hummus, spinach dip… and eat the whole darn thing ourselves! can’t wait to try this 🙂

Buffalo Chicken Dip IS addicting! I can’t wait to make your BBQ version! I have some frozen chicken to cook up, so I’ll probably use that – and tortilla chips or veggies (for dipping) as I’m eating gluten-free. Thank you for sharing your recipe!

This is sooo my kind of dip. Love how easy it is!

I just ran out and bought all the stuff to make this dip. LOL! Looks delicious.

Ooh it looks yummy! I live in Greece and we don’t have canned chicken. Could I use leftover slow cooker chicken pieces? They would be a bit more moist than roast chicken. We also don’t have ranch dressing (crazy isn’t it?). Would Greek yogurt with mayo do? Or the British salad cream dressing? Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Deborah says
@Eleni, you could definitely use leftover shredded chicken. To substitute ranch, I’d probably go with sour cream and some herbs – ranch usually has parsley, chives & dill. I’m not sure what British salad cream dressing is, so I’m not sure if that will work. Hopefully you can make it work!
