Yesterday on Facebook, I asked “If you could go on vacation to any one of the 50 states, which would you choose?”

There ended up being a variety of answers, with of course, Hawaii coming in with the most votes.  (I think everyone is dreaming of a tropical vacation right now!)

But I’m here, over the next few weeks, to convince you that you need to add Utah to that list.

I guess it’s only natural that with my 50×50 challenge, I start here in the state where I live.  I didn’t grow up in Utah, but I’ve lived here for 15 years now, and this is home.  And I love it here.

My husband has a crazy work schedule.  He has Fridays off.  And Sundays off.  But he has to work on Saturdays.  Which really makes it impossible to take a weekend road trip anywhere without taking time off of work.  Enter the staycation.  With the craziness of our lives over the last year, we needed a night away.  And downtown Salt Lake City was calling our names.

I have always wanted to stay at the Hotel Monaco.  I had seen it from the outside, and heard lots of good things about it.  And it was so fun to finally get my chance.  It’s funky and fun and totally unique from any other hotel I’ve ever stayed in.  You are welcomed by hip furnishings and all kinds of textures and colors.

The lobby itself is enough to make you fall in love with the hotel. In 2012, the property underwent a $5 million renovation.  There are over 50 different fabrics used throughout the property, 15,000 square feet of carpeting and 17,000 linear yards of wall coverings.  And Hotel Monaco is a dog friendly property – so bring your pup along for the stay!Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City | www.tasteandtellblog.com #travel #saltlakecity #utah

I will admit that I have stayed in more than one hotel that has a really impressive lobby, only to have a mediocre or uninspired room.  Not Hotel Monaco.  The vibe from the lobby carries into the guest rooms.  Animal prints, funky furniture and bright colors fill the room for a unique experience.  The room was on the small side, but had everything that we needed.  The bed was super comfortable (and I wouldn’t mind taking that headboard home with me!)

As someone who is always worried about forgetting things when I travel, I really loved that they have anything you need – from a phone charger to a humidifier.  And what other hotel says that if you forgot something that they don’t have, that they will go and get it for you?  That’s customer service!!

And no need to go hunting through the city for snacks.  There are plenty to choose from right in your room. (for a charge)

Hotel Monaco is located right in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City.  If you are headed to Utah for a ski weekend or if you have business downtown, Hotel Monaco is the perfect choice.  Or if you are just looking for a night away, you won’t be disappointed with Hotel Monaco.

I’ll be talking about a few places to eat and places to visit in Salt Lake City in the next couple weeks.  And hopefully I’ll inspire you to want to take a trip to Utah!

I’ve never been to Utah outside of a quick layover on the way to Hawaii 🙂 It’s definitely on my list though thanks to all the wonderful bloggers who live there and have shared so much about it. This hotel is stunning, looks perfect for a night away!

  4. Emily says:

Okay, I definitely need a staycation here!

  5. Cheryl illinois says:

Looks like a beautiful hotel. Loved the blue chair in your room and the fact that they had a phone in the bathroom. Doesn’t the phone always ring when you are in the bathroom?? we recently took a road trip from our home in Chicago to Lake Louise in Canada and found much to our surprise that we loved Montana. Had never thought of visiting there but found it beautiful. The typical tourist destinations may not always be the best.

  6. I have never been to Utah but will be headed there in April! We have a hotel Monaco here in DC though and it is beautiful. Kimpton hotels always seem to have a ton of style!

I love nights away, with or without the kids. It’s such a nice change.

  8. The kicker ‘for a charge’ boo lol. Of course I might have to steal one of those lamps – so pretty! And look at that bed!! Wow. Every picture I’ve seen (eh hem… of your backyard in particular) just wows me of your area!

  9. That hotel is gorgeous! How fun, I would love to stay there. 🙂

  11. What a pretty place to stay! We will be staying in SLC for a few days this summer as part of our summer vacation. I have spent many a summers there as a kid but only a few times as an adult. I can’t wait to see what spots you highlight to consider as we plan our trip!
