A super huge thank you to Evan from Sweets by E for today’s Blogger Spotlight – she did this on super short notice, and I’m so grateful!  I’ve been reading Evan’s blog for a few months now, and some delicious things sure do come out of her kitchen!  Make sure you check out the croissant post that is linked below – what an informative post!!

Although my day job doesn’t quite fit with my love for baking, I’m just your average 25 year old who dreams about sweets all day long. (Oh you mean that’s not normal?) Everyone has their passions in life and mine just happens to be in the kitchen. An afternoon cookie maker, wannabe cake decorator, avid weekend baker, and aspiring bakery owner- I’m just a girl, baking her way through this world 🙂 I hope you’ll join me for some of my adventures along the way!
What inspired you to first start writing your blog?

I’ve always liked to bake, but it wasn’t until about two years ago (while trying to procrastinate during grad school) that it started taking over my life. After scouring countless sites and blogs about all things food, I started thinking about creating my own…then about a year ago I relocated to Texas for my job, leaving all my friends and family back on the east coast. It became the perfect opportunity to bake a lot and start a blog following my adventures, all while making new friends and staying connected with old ones too!

What kinds of posts are your favorite to write?  What do your readers seem to like the most?

I absolutely love to decorate cakes, so I look forward to the posts that can put one of my creations on display. I think my readers like them as well because they’re something pretty to look at and a little different than the typical recipe.

What is your favorite kind of food to make?

I don’t know what it is about them, but I adore scones…sweet or savory. I think I could make scones every weekend and not get sick of them. Unfortunately that wouldn’t make for a very exciting blog so I try to spread the recipes out a bit!

What is your favorite recipe posted on your blog?

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I just recently took on the challenge of Homemade Croissants. I was so happy with the way they turned out, especially since it was one of my first attempts with pastries.. Check these little french super stars out!

And I included step by step instructions for those up for the adventure!

Will you show us your kitchen?  What is your favorite thing about your kitchen?

You bet I’ll show you my kitchen! We just moved about 2 months ago and I went from a tiny tiny galley kitchen (where two people were a tight fit) to a well lit, two oven, ample counter space one! My favorite part? That I don’t have to put my kitchen aid mixer away after every use and I have 3 cabinets dedicated to all my baking and cake decorating tools.

Where do most of your recipes come from?  (Family favorites, you make them up, magazines, cookbooks, etc.)

Honestly, I think it’s a good combination of magazines, cookbooks, other blogs and my own. I do have a pretty good collection of cookbooks right now though.. in fact I have a whole book shelf in our house dedicated to my collection!

What is your favorite part about blogging?

The foodie community is absolutely amazing. The people that I have “met” through blogging and the creativity, support and enthusiasm they share on a daily basis never ceases to amaze me. Baked goods make people happy and that makes me happy, I am a sap for a good comment and love to hear from friends and followers.

What kind of camera/lens/equipment do you use?

I just recently got a new camera, but I still haven’t made the full upgrade to a DSLR. I use a digital camera: a Canon s90 to be precise, but it’s one of the best ones out there and has a lot of manual settings that an average digital doesn’t have. I’m definitely still a novice when it comes to photography, but I’m learning as I go and trying to gain as much knowledge as possible from other bloggers, photography sites and books.

What kind of food did you eat growing up?  Do you cook the same kinds of things today?

My parent’s were very good about making us try new foods. I guess it’s pretty easy when your grandfather is Filipino and your grandmother is Swiss- makes for some interesting meals. We typically ate your average American foods though, I have to give my mom credit because she always had a warm homemade meal on the table. My boyfriend and I love spending time in the kitchen and we tend to experiment a lot when it comes to our meals.. its definitely always an adventure 🙂

If you could travel anywhere in the world – just for the food – where would you go?

What is your best tip to becoming a successful blogger?
To be a successful blogger you have to be genuine and put yourself out there because there are a lot of avenues for networking and you meet a lot of cool people along the way. It’s definitely important to keep in mind that there are people behind every blog and they are probably looking for the same excitement and support that you are, so make sure to take the time to visit others and let your followers know you’re listening and appreciate them. Experiment, get crazy, take risks, post your failures (or as I like to call them adventures) let people know you’re not perfect, but most importantly, have fun!
