That darn Candy Crush…

I’m not a big gaming person. Board games? I love them. But computer/video/phone games? I’m not usually all that into them. Sometimes I’ll get caught up in a phone game, but it usually lasts a couple of weeks, at best, and then I’m over it. But I’m never a hard core, always addicted and wanting to play kind of person.

But then, on a whim, I downloaded Candy Crush. I have seen people playing it for quite some time now – mostly the little updates in my Facebook timeline. And really, I don’t know what persuaded me to do it. Usually when I’m on my phone, (which is mostly when I’m nursing Camden), I’m either checking email or Instagram. But I put it on my phone to see what all the fuss was about.

And now. I can’t. Stop. Playing.

It makes me frustrated. It makes me mad. Like how do you expect me to get all of the ingredients to the bottom of the board when I’m out of moves and you haven’t even shown me all of the ingredients yet?

But I still keep playing. Until I run out of lives and I have to wait that half hour until I can play again. And I refuse to connect my Facebook account so that I can beg my friends for more lives. Then I will really never stop playing!!

So instead of taking the time to actually bake something, I decided to throw something together that could be made while I’m waiting for those lives to restore. Something that doesn’t require the use of the oven in this heat. And something that is a real crowd pleaser.

Enter Black and White Rice Krispie Treats. I actually considered not even calling these rice krispie treats at all, because you kind of automatically think marshmallow when you think of rice krispie treats. And although I do love ooey, gooey marshmallow rice krispie treats, these are just a little bit different. And full of chocolate. Both white and semi-sweet.

These really couldn’t be much easier to throw together, and I love the two-toned look and the two different flavors. And did I mention they are easy? And no bake?

And now if you’ll excuse me – I have been on this level for hours now and it’s driving me crazy…

  1. I love love love RKTreats of any kind – and yours are so creative!

  2. Haha game addictions are SO WEIRD!! When plants vs. zombies came out that’s all I did for a solid week. I finished the game and after not speaking to my bf for the week, meekly apologized, and said “that’s it with games!”…until angry birds came out, but that’s another story.

    ANYWAY! These bars sound awesome!!

  3. Wow corn syrup! I have to give this a try when I am out of marshmallows and need a rice Krispy fix! Which happens a lot!

  4. Tieghan says:

These are so creative! I love the layers, so fun!

  5. I am also a Candy Crush addict. And I’m stuck on the same level forever now and I might want to scream, but instead I’ll make these yummy bars and shove them in my face…gotta cope somehow!!

  6. Candy crush has stolen hours of my life! damn those candies. Two tone crispy treats? The perfect balance of dark and light flavours.

  12. LOL! Okay i told myself I wouldn’t succumb to Candy Crush but I did and now I understand why my friends are always sending me requests for lives! It is addicting. I’m super thankful for this recipe though. Making this while waiting for more lives beats sighing and fiddling with my thumbs!

  14. I prefer the chocolate to marshmallows, these look great!

  15. I haven’t tried playing Candy Crush yet….I’m afraid. I was addicted to Doodle Jump for a while and it was bad, then Scramble with Friends, then I aced them both out and just play Words with Friends. It’s a nice leisurely pace! As for these treats, this is a phenomenal idea. I’m pinning this for sure!

  16. Love this twist on rice krispie treats!

  17. Joanne says:

So now I’m wondering whether I should check out Candy Crush or just stay away…probably the latter…right?

I love that you used chocolate as the binder here!! Extra fabulous.
