Sloppy Joes
Filed under Main Dishes - BeefAug 5
Does it ever seem like the recipes you know the best you are most likely to mess up? I’m usually pretty good at making a new recipe. Maybe it’s because it is new – and I follow the instructions better. And maybe when I make a tried and true recipe, I get a little lazy. I don’t know. But I’ve made this sloppy joe recipe many times before. (And I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about it yet!) But somehow, I really managed to mess it up this time. Mistake #1 – I’ve been trying to recycle through some of my older food in the pantry, and I had a couple of cans of Healthy Request tomato soup. This recipe calls for a can of tomato soup, so I wanted to use one of those older cans instead of buying something new. That was definitely mistake #1. Do not use a healthy version of canned tomato soup for this recipe. The stuff doesn’t have very much flavor.
Mistake #2 – adding too much salt to make up for the fact that the soup from mistake #1 had no flavor. I took this a little too far, and what I ended up with were Salty Joes instead of Sloppy Joes. I couldn’t get my husband or my daughter to eat these!
But still, I am sharing this recipe with you today because I know it’s a good one. I promise it has worked for me many times before – as long as I use the right products!! Definitely a lesson learned!

I've had the same thing happen to me as well on recipes I have made many times. Consider it a lesson learned and make sure you have the right products in the pantry for next time!

Sploppy Joes are almost always good! It's a fact the "healthy stuffs" aren't always tasting good…

Sloppy Joes are always a favorite with my crowd. Unfortunately the "Healthy Request" Soups are anything but good tasting, too bad it ruined your dinner.

Sloppy joes were a standby meal here when my boys were teens- quick, easy and made lots! Your recipe sounds similar to mine- the canned soup gives it a little sweet taste. Maybe that's what the light version lacks. Thanks!

I totally know what you mean! Last night I made lumpy polenta because I was super hungry and in a rush. I didn't think I could mess it up.
I totally trust you though! I bet these are awesome.

I'll bet these are awesome too. Too bad about the salt, amazing how good it is to have salt but then how horrible it turns out if there is too much!!
