  • Pork Chops & Apples

This is another combination that I’ve never tried before – pork chops and apples. Yeah, I know – I’m probably one of the few people out there that hadn’t had it until I made this recipe. But guess what? I didn’t really like it. I’m not quite sure why. I was really excited to try it, but it wasn’t my favorite. I’m definitely not blaming the recipe – I think it was just a taste thing. I ate it – but I don’t think I’ll be making it again anytime soon.

How about you? Do you like pork chops and apples??

    Pork Chops & Apples
adapted from Martha Stewart Everyday Food: Great Food Fast

    Serves 4

    2 tablespoons butter
1/2 pound onions, chopped into large chunks
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into eighths
    1/2 cup chicken stock
4 boneless pork chops, each about 1/2-inch thick
    salt and pepper

Heat broiler; set rack 4 inches from heat. In a large skillet, heat butter over medium-high. Add onions; cook, stirring occasionally, until browned, about 5 minutes. Cover pan; reduce heat to medium. Continue cooking until onions are soft, about 5 minutes more.

Add apples and stock; cover, and cook until apples are beginning to soften, about 5 minutes. Uncover; cook, stirring, until most of the liquid has evaporated and apples are tender, 2 to 4 minutes more. Remove from heat; cover to keep warm.

While apples are cooking, season pork chops generously with salt and pepper; place on a rimmed baking sheet. Broil until cooked through, 3 to 5 minutes per side. To serve, spoon warm apple mixture over chops.

    Wilted Spinach with Nutmeg
from Martha Stewart Everyday Food: Great Food Fast

    Serves 4

    2 tablespoons butter
2 packages (10 oz each) fresh spinach, rinsed, tough ends discarded
    pinch of ground nutmeg
    salt and pepper

In a large deep saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, melt butter over medium heat. Add spinach (with water still clinging to leaves); cover, and cook until wilted, stirring halfway through, about 5 minutes.

Remove from heat. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Use slotted spoon to serve.

That looks so yummy, we usually make Pork Chops with Stuffing and apples, its a really simple recipe.

    You just need
    -Pork Chops
    -Apple Pie Filling (1 can)
    -Stuffing

Get a pan and spread some apple pie filling on the bottom (about 1/4 of the can). Brown pork chops in a skillet and then place in the bottom of the same pan you just put the filling in. Pour the rest of the Apple Pie filling over top the pork chops. Make stuffing (boxed is fine) then take it once its cooled and put that overtop the pork chops. Cover with foil and cook for 25 min. Take foil off and cool for another 10-15 min and then enjoy!! (Time will vary depending on the amount of pork chops you are cooking and thickness)

I love pork and apples. I did a pork roast in the slow cooker last week, and it was great. I made the sauce with apple sauce, cloves, yellow mustard, and brown sugar. It was really tasty.

  7. I love, love, love pork chops and apples! I sorry you didn't like it. Maybe try Pork Chops alla Pizzaiola; it is made with tomatoes and herbes de provence.

I like this combo but I usually cut the apples into tinier pieces and make it into a sauce.

  12. I love pork chops and apples! Actually I like pork and any kind of fruit. Sorry this wasn't a hit in your house! Maybe a different version of the apples would help.
