Poppin’ Fresh Barbecups
Filed under Main Dishes - BeefAug 27
Let me first warn you – if you are looking for a fancy meal, you can just click right past my blog today. Same goes if you are against using pre-made ingredients. There seems to be a stigma in the food blogging world that pre-packaged ingredients are “not cool”. I will totally agree that many of them contain ingredients that aren’t the best for us or our families. But I think I’m all about keeping it real. I pride myself on being a “normal” girl who makes “normal” food. I do like to get down and dirty every now and again and make something really elegant or complex, but for the most part, I’m about easy, fast, everyday meals. And if you have to use a few pre-made products to get dinner on the table instead of going through the McDonald’s drive thru, I’d say use the pre-made products!
That being said, I really think my cooking has changed a lot since I started this blog. But cooking has become more of a hobby for me than a necessity. But for most families, getting dinner on the table is just a necessary part of the day. And on days when time seems short and you don’t know how you are going to make it happen, meals like this are a life saver. This recipe is exactly what I would expect out of a Pillsbury cookbook. But I have to admit, as easy as it was, both my husband and I really loved these! And the leftovers were even better. And this meal saved me from another dinner of jalepeno poppers from the frozen section of the grocery store. I’d say it was a winner!
Poppin’ Fresh Barbecups
from Pillsbury Dough Magic1 lb. lean ground beef 1/2 cup barbecue sauce 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 to 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 (12-oz.) can Pillsbury® Golden Layers® Refrigerated Buttermilk or Flaky Biscuits 2 oz. (1/2 cup) shredded Cheddar or American cheese Heat oven to 400°F. Grease 10 medium muffin cups. In large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat until thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently. Drain. Stir in barbecue sauce, onion and brown sugar. Cook 1 minute to blend flavors, stirring constantly.
Separate dough into 10 biscuits. Place 1 biscuit in each greased muffin cup. Firmly press in bottom and up sides, forming 1/4-inch rim over edge of cup. Spoon about 1/4 cup beef mixture into each biscuit-lined cup. Sprinkle each with cheese.
Bake at 400°F. for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges of biscuits are golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from muffin cups.

Those do look good! I’m all for making life easier, so if you have to use a packaged ingredient to get fast results then go for it!
My boys would totally love these. I’m marking this one as something I can reheat and stick in their thermos-type container for lunch at school!

i agree that its seems prepackaged food is not great in blogging world but sometimes it works and I sure know that my 18 month makes it hard to want to cook sometimes so I would rather that than like you said mcdonalds.
i have made these before and they are great.

Hey, this are my kind of recipes. Easy, real and delicious. I also try to avoid pre-packaged ingredients that contain too much crap, but we have to keep it real, right?
Nice recipe

Keep it simple and NORMAL!! You have it right. Life is to jam packed and crazy to do anything BUT keep it that way. As a crazy time challenged person I appreciate your recipes.

Poppin Fresh sounds good to me, honey. We had grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches this evening. I figured since my husband was under the weather, my son and I could have something I liked when I was growing up. Your cute little poppin cups look like something I shouldn’t be left alone with too long. Seriously.
And Deborah, thanks for the link on Smittenkitchen and that chocolate cake. My heart is swelling with love for you dear one! Goodness. I couldn’t figure out where the hits were coming from.

Hey….I’m all for a little convenience when needed! Especially the biscuits. I also use them in a pizza casserole and it is one of the favored dishes by my family!

Nothin wrong with prepackaged stuff every now and again or even often if that is what you like to do! Those look great and I know of many people that will pretend they made everything from scratch. When can I come over for some…???

I wasn’t lying when I said they could be on the menu!. Was running low on time last night and these popped into my head so I threw them together with some leftover ground veal and pork and they turned out awesome. Thanks for helping out with dinner last night Deb!

These remind me of Tracy’s Jalepeno Popper Cups! Remember when she made those for the Pillsbury Bake-Off?
I have bought 4 tubes of Pillsbury pizza crust in the past 2 weeks. It’s not bad if you’re in a hurry. They have a new thin crust dough. It’s a little fake tasting, but other than that it’s good.

Pre packaged food is not all nasty and I think there is absolutely a place for it in busy lives!!! My favourite store cupboard saviour is flavoured tinned tomatoes, no nasties, no flavour compromise, no stress!!!

I am all about something easy at times.
Working full time and a little family now
does not provide as much as any of us
would want for cooking.
I made these last night just to “try”..
had to leave out the onions due to my
allergy to them, but added garlic instead,
they were extremely tasty.
Anything a two year old who we have a
hard time getting to eat any other meat but
ham is great.. and these were great and
fast and delicious for lunch today too.
Thanks Deb..[Reply]
