  • Bad Photo Sunday – Wings 2 Ways

    Aug 17

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Bad Photo Sunday, and I’ve been meaning to do this post for quite some time now, so I decided to bring it back!!

Quite some time ago, I came across a post on another blog where they were talking about Country Bob’s sauce. I left a comment about how we would love this sauce, because we are sauce lovin’ people! Lo and behold, I got an email from the people at Country Bob’s, asking if I’d like a bottle to sample. Of course I couldn’t turn it down!! Not long after, I received a box with 2 bottles of sauce, plus some recipes. As I went through recipes, one for wings caught my attention. I had also been eyeing a recipe from one of my cookbooks for wings, so I thought I’d make a night of it and have wing night! The first were the Country Bob’s wings. I decided not to go by the recipe, but just to keep it simple. I have only made wings once before, and that time I deep fried them. I didn’t want to go to as much trouble, so I simply baked the wings, and then coated them with the sauce when they were done. Delicious!! My husband especially loved these, and they were gone from his plate in mere minutes. For the second wings – let’s just say I totally take the blame for completely messing these up. Instead of marinating the 1 hour that the recipe specified, I decided to marinate the wings all day long. So when I went to actually make them, the wings had already soaked up all of the marinade, so there was nothing left for the sauce. In my stupidity, I decided to make more of the marinade to turn into the sauce. Let’s just say that that much soy sauce in one recipe is not a good thing. These were pretty inedible because they were so salty. Thank goodness the Country Bob’s wings were good, otherwise we would have been hitting a drive through that night!!

I’m giving the recipe as written, because I still think they would be good if you didn’t mess them up like I did. But I don’t think I’ll be trying them for awhile, since I still can taste that saltiness in my mouth!

Just another quick word about Country Bob’s – this has become a favorite sauce in our house. Our favorite is to use it as a condiment on hamburgers, and it also makes a good dipping sauce for fries. If you are a sauce lover, you should really check it out!!

    Empress Chicken Wings
    from the Great American Cookbook

Makes 4 to 6 appetizer servings

    1 1/2 pounds chicken wings
    3 tablespoons soy sauce

    1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger

    1 clove garlic, minced

    2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/4 cup to 1/3 cup cornstarch

    2/3 cup water

2 green onions and tops, cut diagonally into thin strips

    1 teaspoon slivered fresh ginger

Disjoint the chicken wings; discard tips (or save for stock). Combine soy sauce, minced ginger and garlic in a large bowl; stir in chicken. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Remove chicken; reserve marinade. Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Lightly coat chicken pieces with cornstarch; add to skillet and brown slowly on all sides. Remove chicken; drain off fat. Stir water and reserved marinade into same skillet. Add chicken; sprinkle green onions and slivered ginger evenly over chicken. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, or until chicken is tender.

  16. How cool that you got a sample of that sauce! Both of those wings look amazing; too bad the one was too salty. Isn’t that a bummer when that happens? Especially after all that work. Glad you were able to eat the Country Bob’s wings, though! Man, now I want some wings!
