Pup-Cakes
**Today is the last day to enter to win a magazine subscription! If you haven’t entered already – you’d better hurry!! You have until 6pm MST tonight.**It was my big guy’s second birthday yesterday. I often get made fun of because I treat my dog like my offspring. He really is the center of our lives, and gets spoiled more than we will probably spoil our children when we have them!! So what better thing to do for Max’s birthday than to make him cupcakes!!
I actually made him a cake last year. We were thinking he would dive right in and just tear it apart, but that didn’t happen. He kind of just licked it, and took a couple of nibbles, but that was about it. I did forget to put the egg in, so maybe it didn’t taste too great. So this year, I decided to go with cupcakes. That way, he could eat one, and then we could save the rest for later. No full cake to throw away! I looked online for a recipe, but nothing was really catching my attention. I jotted down the random ingredients from a few different recipes, and came up with my own concoction. They turned out perfectly! They were light and soft like a cupcake should be. I don’t know how it tasted, but Max sure did eat it up!!Happy birthday big boy!!

Pup-Cakes
Makes about 12 cakes1 cup flour
2-4 oz. jars of baby food
6 oz. canned dog food
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons oil
2 eggs
1/2 tablespoon baking powderCombine all ingredients. Put in greased cupcake pan and cook at 350F for 13-15 minutes.
Frosting
Cream cheese peanut butter crushed dry dog food honey I don’t have measurements – I just kind of threw everything in and stirred until it was the right consistency!**Disclaimer – many dogs have allergies to foods, just like people do. Make sure your dog is not allergic to any of the ingredients!

what kind of baby food did you use?

Mary,
I just found some organic chicken and sweet potato baby food at the grocery store. And I used a chicken flavor dog food as well. The dog food was chunky, but I left it that way, so there were chunks of the dog food throughout the cake.

I have to ask – normally cupcakes make a home smell divine… what did your pupcakes smell like as they baked??? (He certainly is one lucky pup, though!!!)

Katie,
They actually didn’t smell too bad. If it wasn’t for the dog food in them, I probably would have tried them!!

That’s awesome. Our German shepherd, the Persnickety Pup herself, will be turning 1 next Monday, and I’ve been trying to decide what to make for her. These are a definite possibility!

What a fabulous idea! Growing up, I always wanted to bake things for my dog on his birthdays, but my mom would never let me because she said it would be bad for him. I never thought to make him cake using dog-friendly ingredients…
I bet your dog was so happy![Reply]

I just ran across your blog and I love it!
My husband and I also spoil our dog rotten and treat him like our baby! We don’t have children yet either. Our baby is a 3-year-old black-and-tan chihuahua named Cesar. Your baby is so adorable! Thanks for all of your recipes![Reply]
